Irish actors Daryl McCormack and Chris O’Dowd have been announced as voice actors in the upcoming animated film On The Edge. The movie, from Studio BlueGreen, aims to raise awareness about endangered animals through a story of their mission to save their species. Directed by Octavio Rodriguez, it is set for release in early 2027.
The animated feature On The Edge brings together a talented ensemble of voice actors, including Daryl McCormack, Chris O’Dowd, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Mark Rylance, Anna Maxwell Martin, Paterson Joseph, and Vincent Tong. Produced by Studio BlueGreen and directed by Octavio Rodriguez—known for his work on Pixar films like Coco, Incredibles 2, and Ron’s Gone Wrong—the film follows a group of endangered animals embarking on a mission to preserve their species.
The project is driven by a mission to educate audiences about wildlife conservation without overt messaging. Producer Beth Blood, founder of Studio BlueGreen, explained in an interview with Variety: “[W]e originated this film not for our personal profit but to achieve impact. At its heart, this movie is about using the joy and emotive power of the very best in animated storytelling, to foster a love of our planet and the incredible animals, species, and ecosystems that populate it.”
Director Rodriguez emphasized the importance of narrative over didacticism. “We’re not trying to spoon feed this,” he said. “It’s really story first. I really wanted to avoid trying to push some information at you. I wanted you just to sit back and enjoy the story and go, ‘I want to know more about these characters.’ My desire for this is that you walk out of the theater and have a conversation and be more curious about what’s happening to these animals.”
McCormack, from Nenagh, Ireland, has appeared in TV series such as Peaky Blinders and Bad Sisters, and starred in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. His recent credits include Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, with upcoming roles in Rogue Trooper and a Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
O’Dowd is recognized for his performances in The IT Crowd and State of the Union, the latter earning him a Primetime Emmy. His film roles include Bridesmaids and This Is 40.
On The Edge is slated for a theatrical release in early 2027.
