Police have launched an investigation into the murder of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer by unknown assailants in the Seme area of Kisumu County. The 46-year-old officer was attacked along with another man as they headed home from Asat Beach and died at the hospital. The other victim survived with serious injuries, and probes are ongoing.
Local authorities reported that the attack occurred on Saturday morning when the KDF officer, attached to Embakasi barracks, and another man were heading home from Asat Beach. They were ambushed by assailants who struck them with sharp objects, inflicting serious cuts to their heads and limbs. The 46-year-old officer was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital but succumbed to his injuries around 4am upon arrival.
The accompanying man survived and is recuperating at the same facility with severe wounds. Following the death, the officer's body was moved from JOORH to Kwea Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
Addressing the press shortly after the incident, West Othany Assistant Chief Richard Jaoko stated that security agencies had initiated investigations. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in collaboration with officers from Kombewa Police Station, visited the scene.
Members of the public with information about the incident have been urged to come forward to assist the ongoing probe. This event unfolds amid a rise in insecurity across parts of the country, including muggings, violent robberies, and murders during the festive season. On December 17, however, the Ministry of Interior announced enhanced security measures, including the activation of the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) to oversee surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid responses through the holiday period.
