DCI refutes arrest claims of suspected serial killer Collins Jumaisi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has denied reports that Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the murders of 42 women in Nairobi, has been rearrested. The suspect, who escaped custody last year, remains at large, according to official statements. Authorities are offering a Ksh1 million reward for information leading to his capture.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, dismissing online claims that Collins Jumaisi Kalusha, suspected of murdering 42 women whose bodies were found in a quarry in Mukuru kwa Njenga, had been rearrested. Reports had circulated alleging that detectives arrested him last Friday in Launda, Vihiga County, following an altercation with fellow passengers in a matatu, and that he was being held at Naivasha Police Station.

"Our attention has been drawn to information circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the grisly Kware murders, who escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024," the DCI stated. "We wish to clarify that the information about his re-arrest is false, and Collins Jumaisi remains at large."

Jumaisi escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024 along with 12 other suspects. They cut through a wire mesh and scaled a perimeter wall, with the breakout discovered around 5 a.m. during a routine breakfast check. The incident prompted the arrest of five police officers suspected of aiding the escape.

Prior to his detention at Gigiri, Jumaisi had been arraigned in court, where a judge ordered 30 days of remand pending investigations into the murders. The bodies, mutilated and dumped in Kware, shocked Nairobi residents and drew widespread attention to the case.

The DCI urged the public to provide tips on Jumaisi's whereabouts via the toll-free number 0800722203 or at any local office. "A cash reward of Ksh1 million will be offered for information leading to his arrest. The DCI remains unwavering in its commitment to apprehending Collins Jumaisi and holding him accountable," the statement concluded.
