Delhi ceo says 42% voters mapped ahead of sir

Delhi's chief electoral officer reported that nearly 42% of voters have been mapped to 2002 rolls. The special intensive revision of electoral rolls will begin on June 30.

Around 62.44 lakh electors in Delhi have been mapped with the 2002 electoral rolls, according to Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar. He noted the city has over 1.46 crore voters across 13,033 polling stations.

Kumar said the pre-SIR mapping exercise, underway since January, faced challenges due to the city's migrant population. A month-long door-to-door verification drive by booth level officers will begin alongside the special intensive revision on June 30.

The draft roll is scheduled for publication on August 5. Claims and objections will be accepted until September 4, with verification and hearings continuing until October 3 and final rolls published on October 7.

Kumar stated that meetings were held with leaders from six national parties. These parties have appointed 29,758 booth-level agents across Delhi.

In 48 seats during West Bengal's 2026 elections, voter numbers fell below 2021 levels. These seats account for 28% of the total 27.16 lakh deletions from the electoral roll. The Special Intensive Revision may have influenced turnout.

While Tamil Nadu's April 23 assembly elections set an all-time high voter turnout of 85.1%—as initially reported amid peaceful polling—the absolute increase in votes cast marks the smallest rise over the prior election in 15 years, per Election Commission provisional data. This follows a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that net deleted 68 lakh electors.
