Nearly a month after its indefinite closure, Walt Disney World has fully enclosed the World Discovery Liquid Layer Splash Pad in EPCOT's World Discovery neighborhood with construction walls, making it inaccessible to guests. The popular family spot has faced intermittent closures since mid-February 2026, escalating from stanchions and ropes in early March. Disney has provided no details on the reason, scope, or reopening timeline.
The splash pad, a go-to area for families to beat Florida's heat, is now completely blocked by construction barriers. EPCOT emphasizes exploration, dining, and culture over kid-focused rides found in Magic Kingdom, making interactive play spaces like this especially valuable for young visitors and resting parents along the park's long paths.
This follows the initial indefinite shutdown reported on March 3, when water features were off and access roped off, amid other visible maintenance concerns elsewhere in the park. The splash pad had previously reopened after a multi-week refurbishment in November 2023.
With no official word on whether this involves maintenance, redesign, or something else, families must turn to alternatives such as the nearby Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, which offers shaded, interactive water play.
