Mohanlal returns as Georgekutty in Drishyam 3, which hit theatres worldwide on May 21. The Malayalam film marks the final chapter of the popular thriller franchise directed by Jeethu Joseph.
Drishyam 3 continues the story of Georgekutty and his family after the events of Drishyam 2. The franchise began with the first film in 2013 and the sequel in 2021. Besides Mohanlal, the cast includes Meena, Esther Anil and Ansiba Hassan.
The film is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Panorama Studios. Ahead of release, the makers shared a promotional video noting strong audience hype. Mohanlal posted on X that the movie is in theatres worldwide from today.
Advance bookings reached nearly Rs 24 crore gross worldwide by May 19, according to Sacnilk. Kerala alone accounted for about Rs 6.75 crore in pre-sales. The trailer, released on May 9, shows Georgekutty facing new threats to his family.
Director Jeethu Joseph said he had expected viewers to stay divided over the moral questions from the first film but audiences sided strongly with Georgekutty. Producers of the upcoming Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn stated it will feature changes in screenplay to suit Hindi audiences.
