Patullo's promotion came after the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX victory in 2025, when previous coordinator Kellen Moore departed to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints. In his one season as play-caller, Philadelphia's offense ranked 19th in scoring at 22.3 points per game and 24th in total yards, a significant drop from prior years where the team never finished worse than seventh in scoring or eighth in yards from 2022 to 2024. Quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley underperformed relative to expectations, with Barkley held below 4.0 yards per carry in nine games after just twice the previous season.
