Egypt’s health minister discusses cooperation with national planning institute

Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with officials from the Institute of National Planning to discuss expanding cooperation on healthcare policy development and improving human development indicators, as part of efforts to modernize the health sector. The talks focused on Egypt’s healthcare achievements and health’s role as a central pillar intersecting with development sectors.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health stated that Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Institute of National Planning (INP) officials to review past collaboration and explore future initiatives.

Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to healthcare policies covering all age groups, highlighting integrated strategies such as “One Health” and broader quality-of-life initiatives.

The discussions covered state efforts to expand universal health insurance coverage, combat non-communicable diseases, and strengthen prevention and early detection programs. The ministry highlighted key achievements, including the elimination of hepatitis C, progress in local pharmaceutical manufacturing, improvements in population indicators, and expanded training for healthcare providers.

Talks also addressed digital transformation in healthcare, including Egypt’s digital health strategy and upgrades to primary healthcare units, as well as structural reforms, sector governance, the Egyptian genome project, and efforts to improve citizens’ access to services.

The ministry stressed that continued investment in healthcare-supporting sectors remains a priority within Egypt’s sustainable development agenda, reflecting integration of economic and social planning into national healthcare policy.
