Electricity and petroleum ministers review summer power demand plans

Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, met with Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to review the joint action plan for the anticipated rise in electricity demand this summer.

The two ministries forecast electricity demand to rise around 8% from last year, with projections that it could exceed the previous record peak of 40,000 MW.

The ministers examined alternative scenarios and contingency measures to secure fuel supplies and maintain stability of the unified national grid. Esmat noted that fuel consumption has been reduced to less than 170 grams per kWh, with 2,200 MW of renewable energy capacity and 1,300 MWh of battery storage systems to be connected this year.

Badawi stressed full coordination between the ministries and the efficient operation of LNG import infrastructure through regasification vessels and the Damietta LNG plant.
