Ethiopian trade ministry launches online export services next week

Ethiopia's Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration has approved moving export business contract registration and exporter licensing fully online starting next Monday. This step aims to make services more accessible and efficient for businesses.

The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration in Ethiopia has approved the full transition of two key services for the business community—export business contract registration and exporter license issuance—to an online system starting next Monday, Tahsas 06, 2018 E.C. This move, as reported by Capital, enhances the accessibility of these services through the internet.

Abdulhakkim from the ministry's licensing directorate stated that this initiative represents a significant step in digitalizing the ministry's offerings to businesses. He explained that the new system allows applicants to access required services without physical contact, thereby saving time and costs while making the process modern and equitable.

Abdulhakkim further noted that the government has undertaken broad reforms to ensure business facilitation. The ministry is committed to leveraging technology to deliver cost-effective services. Additionally, the time required to start a business has been reduced from 32 days to 5 days, and the procedural steps have been streamlined from 11 to 4. This development creates a more efficient environment for traders.
