Feminist 25N march reaches Mexico City's Zócalo peacefully

On November 25, feminist groups marched in Mexico City from the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan to the Zócalo to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The mobilization, featuring searching mothers and survivors, proceeded peacefully without reported incidents. Participants demanded justice for feminicides and an end to gender-based violence.

The 25N march started around 3:00 PM from the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan on Reforma Avenue, and other points like the Ángel de la Independencia and the Monumento a la Revolución. The contingents, made up of groups such as Pan y Rosas, Amnistía Internacional México, Morras de Fuego, and Coordinación 8M, advanced along Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, Eje Central, and 5 de Mayo toward the Zócalo. The vanguard arrived around 4:30 PM, where a rally took place in front of Palacio Nacional.

During the protest, women shared stories of gender-based violence and chanted slogans like 'No estás sola' and 'Si tocan a una, tocan a todas'. Other demands included anti-imperialist and socialist feminism, a halt to the genocide in Palestine, opposition to Trump's anti-immigrant policies, an end to labor precarity, a stop to repression, and 'Ni cis, ni trans, ni una asesinada más'. They also called for safe spaces, the return of the disappeared, justice for survivors, an end to the criminalization of protests, and legal abortion.

The Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) set up traffic controls and advised using Metro stations like Allende, Pino Suárez, and Bellas Artes, as Zócalo remained closed. Monuments and buildings were protected with barriers. The Red Rompe el Miedo monitored the march in real time to ensure safety.

This date honors the Mirabal sisters, killed in 1960 for opposing Rafael Trujillo's regime in the Dominican Republic. Designated in 1981 at the First Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Meeting, the UN formalized it in 1999. This year's theme is to eradicate digital violence against women and girls.
