The death toll from the tragic N2 crash at Kwambonami on KwaZulu-Natal's north coast has risen to five. The incident on December 19 involved multiple bakkies, triggered by a southbound vehicle overtaking on a double barrier line, causing a head-on collision and pile-up.
Initially, four people died at the scene, with two critically injured and hospitalized, as reported by RTI spokesperson Sindi Msimang. One of those injured has now succumbed, confirmed by Msimang.
Authorities continue to stress road safety amid holiday traffic, warning against reckless overtaking on South African highways. The series highlights ongoing risks in busy coastal routes like KwaZulu-Natal's N2.
