A former social worker in Alvesta directs sharp criticism at the municipality's handling of domestic violence cases. The criticism follows after two children were seriously injured in a suspected murder attempt.
Over the weekend two children were seriously injured in Alvesta. The suspected perpetrator, the children's father, was later found dead. The mother had according to information to SVT contacted social services days before the incident to warn about the father's aggressive behavior.
The former employee describes in a letter to managers and politicians how the domestic violence unit has been reduced from two full-time positions to half a position. The tasks are now distributed among all social secretaries, which according to the letter leads to a lack of specialist knowledge.
Lavinia Strömberg (S), chair of the committee for work and learning, confirms that it is a conscious effort. The criticism also includes that protected housing according to a manager should not be granted without a police report first. The children are treated in hospitals in Skåne with life-threatening and serious injuries respectively.
