Fox and Hulu have given a two-season order to Stewie, a new animated comedy spin-off from Family Guy centered on the character Stewie Griffin. The series, co-created by Seth MacFarlane and Kirker Butler, is set to premiere during the 2027-28 broadcast season on Fox, with next-day streaming on Hulu. It follows Stewie as he navigates a new preschool using his inventions for space and time adventures.

The announcement of Stewie marks the second spin-off from the long-running Family Guy, which has aired for 24 seasons and recently premiered its 450th episode in Season 24. Unlike the earlier spin-off The Cleveland Show, which ran for four seasons from 2009 to 2013 and temporarily removed the character from the main series, Stewie will continue appearing on Family Guy without interruption. The new show introduces its own world at a subpar preschool attended by unfamiliar children and a 75-year-old class turtle with eccentric theories on various subjects.

According to the official logline, Stewie, initially miserable in this environment, deploys his array of devices to transport himself and his classmates through space and time, transforming dull school days into surreal escapades. The series will feature references to the original show, including Stewie's teddy bear Rupert and his time machine, with Brian the dog expected to make appearances. Seth MacFarlane, who voices Stewie, Brian, and Peter Griffin on Family Guy, will reprise the role and executive produce alongside showrunner Kirker Butler and Kara Vallow for Fuzzy Door Productions, with 20th Television Animation as the studio.

MacFarlane commented, "I’d like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show." Butler added, "I am honored and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television. I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name."

Stewie joins Fox's Animation Domination block, which includes Family Guy, American Dad!, Bob's Burgers, and The Simpsons—all renewed through the 2028-29 season—along with newer series like Grimsburg, Krapopolis (renewed for Seasons 4 and 5), and Universal Basic Guys (renewed for Season 3). The deal is a joint commission between Fox and Hulu, with episodes slightly fewer than the 15 per season of the legacy shows. Family Guy remains a top performer, ranking as the second most-watched adult animation streaming title in 2025 with over 3 billion multiplatform minutes viewed.
