Leaders of France Insoumise announced on Tuesday they have filed a complaint with Arcom, accusing BFMTV of serious breaches in pluralism, honesty, and independence in its coverage of Rima Hassan's custody. In a letter published on X, Manuel Bompard and Paul Vannier criticized the channel for spreading false information about drugs found.
France Insoumise leaders Manuel Bompard and Paul Vannier sent a formal complaint to Arcom, France's audiovisual regulator, over BFMTV's handling of euro-MP Rima Hassan's police custody. They claim the channel repeatedly aired tickers stating drugs were found in the lawmaker's personal belongings during the Thursday custody linked to an apology of terrorism probe.
The prosecutor's office clarified that substances resembling CBD and 3MMC, a synthetic drug, were found, and Hassan was questioned about them. These items, unrelated, will face a separate procedure. The Franco-Palestinian MEP denied possessing drugs, stating she uses legal CBD for medical purposes.
LFI also criticized BFMTV for imbalance, noting it did not broadcast Hassan's Friday press conference where she defended herself and failed to issue a proportionate correction.
Hassan faces trial on July 7 for an X post referencing the perpetrator of an attack on Israel.
