Fresh snow arrives at Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area near Chelan

The U.S. Forest Service has announced that Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area, located near Chelan, Washington, is now open following a fresh coating of snow this week. This development invites winter recreationists to enjoy 25 miles of groomed trails suitable for various activities. Spokesperson Robin DeMario highlighted the area's diverse terrain and stunning views.

Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area, situated just 11 miles from downtown Chelan in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, offers a welcoming environment for winter sports enthusiasts. At an elevation of around 3,600 feet, the area typically sits above the winter clouds blanketing the Lake Chelan valley, providing visitors with impressive vistas.

Robin DeMario, spokesperson for the national forest, emphasized the variety of options available: "The terrain varies in skill level, but there is consistent grooming for skate and classic skiing, snowshoeing, and a few dog friendly trails."

While the site accommodates snowshoeing and dog walking, these activities are restricted from the groomed cross-country ski trails to preserve their condition. DeMario advised caution during extreme cold: "During very cold temperatures, it's probably best to leave your four-footed companions at home."

Fat bikes are permitted, but only on trails designated for snowshoeing. Access to the area requires preparation, with DeMario recommending a four-wheel-drive vehicle for the best approach. Visitors are urged to consult grooming updates on the Lake Chelan Nordic Club website before heading out.

The trails operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Entry fees are $15 per person via cash or check at self-service stations near the trailheads, with free admission for children 17 and under.

This opening enhances local winter recreation opportunities, drawing skiers, snowshoers, and families to the region.
