Germany's Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann stated that Alexander Zverev has reached parity with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Kohlmann made the comments in an interview published on July 26, 2026.
Kohlmann told Ran Joyn that he never viewed Zverev as far behind the top two players. He added that Sinner and Alcaraz held a slight edge in recent years due to their success in major matches and head-to-head records, but he believes Zverev has now closed the gap and has sometimes performed better in the last two months.
Zverev captured his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in 2026 and advanced to the Wimbledon final, where he took the opening set from Sinner. These results lifted him to world No. 2 while Alcaraz recovered from injury.
Kohlmann's assessment comes as Zverev holds an Olympic gold medal from the Tokyo Games, a distinction neither Sinner nor Alcaraz has achieved. The captain highlighted Zverev's consistency across Grand Slams and Masters 1000 events this season.
