Guerrero prepares homage to Lucio Cabañas on 51st death anniversary

Guerrero's governor, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, announced that her administration is in talks with Lucio Cabañas' family to organize a homage on the 51st anniversary of his death. Salgado reaffirmed her commitment to justice and social struggle, stating she will never side with oppressors. The event highlights the state's history of resistance.

In the Valle del Ocotito, Evelyn Salgado Pineda concluded a work tour that began in the towns of the Sierra de Chilpancingo. Addressing local community representatives, the governor stressed that Guerrero is a state of struggle, resistance, courage, and dignity. She referenced historical movements that showed the state does not surrender, naming figures like Lucio Cabañas Barrientos, Genaro Vázquez Rojas, and Julián Blanco, who led armed movements.

Salgado disclosed that her government is in contact with Cabañas' family to plan the annual homage in memory of the guerrilla leader and founder of the Partido de los Pobres (PDLP). December 2 will mark 51 years since his death in combat during a clash with the Mexican Army in El Otatal, Sierra de Tecpan de Galeana. The governor described this period as one of the bravest chapters in Guerrero's and Mexico's history.

She expressed gratitude to social fighters, both living and deceased, whose legacy endures. "We will never be on the side of the oppressors," Salgado asserted, reaffirming her commitment to justice, social struggle, history, and Guerrero's dignity.
