Heavy rain expected at Disney World this weekend

A developing storm system off Florida's coast is forecast to bring significant rainfall to Disney World over the weekend. The National Hurricane Center has assessed low chances for tropical development while warning of heavy showers in the Orlando area.

A new storm system began forming off central Florida on Wednesday. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center noted in their Friday afternoon outlook that the system carries a 10 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm or depression within two days and a 30 percent chance within the week.

Meteorologists said gradual development remains possible as the system drifts northward. This movement is expected to deliver heavy rain to portions of Florida's west coast and extend into the Orlando region on Saturday and Sunday.

Winds across east central Florida are projected to strengthen to 10 to 15 miles per hour. The added moisture will increase the likelihood of scattered showers and storms, primarily in the afternoon hours through early next week.
