The House of Representatives is expected to vote Monday on transmitting articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate. Lawmakers say support has grown to at least 225 members, well above the 106 votes required.
Four articles accuse Duterte of misusing confidential funds, bribery, issuing death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and unexplained wealth. The complaints originated from civil society and religious groups, according to Manila Representative Joel Chua.
Chua warned that disinformation and troll operations are distorting public understanding of the case. He described impeachment as a constitutional process of accountability rather than a political maneuver.
The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino party warned lawmakers who vote for impeachment that they will be blacklisted from running under its banner in 2028. If the articles pass, the Senate could convene as an impeachment court as early as Wednesday.
