Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment gets free update with new weapons and challenges

Nintendo is releasing a free update for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment on November 27, 2025, adding new weapons, challenges, and Sync Strikes. The update introduces additional content post-main campaign, including battles against new enemy types for in-game rewards. This is the first of two planned updates for the game.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the follow-up to 2020's Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, launched on Nintendo Switch 2. Developed as a crossover with Koei Tecmo's Warriors series, it features intense combat across Hyrule with a roster of characters from various races and golems.

Update Details

The free update arrives on November 27, 2025, and unlocks after completing the main campaign. Players can access multiple Battle Challenges and Hyrule Challenges, facing new Vicious enemy types to earn rewards. Two new weapons are added: the Greatsword of Light and the Spear of the Upper Guard, equippable to golems and warriors.

New Sync Strikes enhance co-op attacks. For Zelda and Calamo, Calamo throws a boomerang that Zelda catches with precise timing—pressing X at the right moment amplifies the attack's power, incorporating time manipulation. Another Sync Strike involves the Block Golem in a spinning assault that defeats weaker foes.

The patch also addresses bugs, adding map tutorials, previews of reclaimable areas, and health recovery estimates. Nintendo announced this on social media, stating it allows fans to 'enjoy Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment for even longer.' This marks the first of two confirmed updates.

Reception and Context

Reviews praise the game's combat and character variety. Eurogamer's Alex described it as the series' 'richest offering yet,' while GameSpot awarded it 7/10, noting the story may disappoint hardcore Zelda fans but highlighting combat as a series high point.
