Jury convicts Sena clan in Cecilia Strzyzowski femicide

A popular jury in Resistencia, Chaco, convicted César Sena and his parents for the 2023 femicide of Cecilia Strzyzowski, imposing life sentences. Judge Dolly Fernández described the verdict as a reflection of societal exhaustion with impunity tied to political figures. Hundreds of residents marched in celebration outside the courthouse.

The femicide of Cecilia Strzyzowski, which occurred in June 2023, shook Chaco province and sparked massive demands for justice and state transparency. After more than a day and a half of deliberation, a 12-member popular jury issued a unanimous verdict on November 16, 2025, finding six of the seven defendants guilty.

César Mario Alejandro Sena, the victim's ex-partner, was deemed the author of the aggravated homicide due to the relationship and gender violence. His parents, Emerenciano Sena and Marcela Verónica Acuña, were found to be primary participants, all facing life imprisonment to be set in a sentencing hearing. José Gustavo Obregón and Fabiana Cecilia González received sentences for aggravated cover-up, Gustavo Melgarejo a lesser penalty, and Griselda Reinoso was acquitted.

Judge Dolly Roxana Fernández, from the Second Criminal Chamber, stated that the ruling reflects “the result of a social exhaustion” regarding the accused's ties to Chaco's political sectors. “They were public figures, candidates for important political positions. People said enough. They understood this was more than just the aberrant crime against a woman; it was a necessary social limit”, the magistrate noted at a packed judicial studies center.

Fernández highlighted the clan's misuse of state resources and the lack of gender perspective in prior complaints: “Women come asking for help and they are not listened to or given the necessary support. Then we end up with more serious incidents”. The case, a symbol against gender violence, unfolds amid rising femicides in Chaco.

Outside the Resistencia courthouse, hundreds marched with t-shirts, posters, pink and white balloons, flags, and photos of Cecilia, celebrating with cries of “Justice” from early morning until the verdict's confirmation.
