Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha launched the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS) on Saturday at Medchal near Hyderabad. She criticized her father and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao while outlining an agenda focused on social justice, free education, and healthcare. The party's name may attract scrutiny from the Election Commission of India.
K Kavitha launched the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS) on Saturday at a private convention centre in Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. She described the party as a vehicle to build a "Samajika Telangana" ensuring equitable opportunities for SCs, STs, BCs, minorities, women, and youth.
Kavitha outlined a five-point agenda including free education from primary to university level, universal free healthcare, dignity and support for farmers, and financial assistance from ₹2 lakh to ₹20 crore for unemployed youth to start enterprises. She promised to fill four lakh government vacancies at one go. "A political party must have a soul and an agenda," she said.
She launched a sharp attack on her father K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), alleging he had become a "soulless mechanical doll" after becoming chief minister in 2014, detached from the Telangana movement's spirit. "Earlier, KCR was 'mana manishi' (our man), but now he has turned into a 'mara manishi' (a robot)," she added. Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September 2025.
Sources said the Election Commission of India may scrutinize the TRS name for potential voter confusion due to its similarity to the legacy Telangana Rashtra Samithi, renamed Bharat Rashtra Samithi in 2022. Political observers view the naming as a strategic move to reclaim the original TRS legacy. BRS working president KT Rama Rao had recently indicated considering a revert to TRS.
Kavitha unveiled the party flag featuring yellow, blue, and green colours with a blue map of Telangana inscribed with "TRS". She announced the party would contest upcoming mandal parishad, zilla parishad, and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. BJP state chief spokesperson NV Subhash called it a family fallout played out publicly.
