Kisumu County has announced new measures to tackle criminal gangs, rogue businesses and unruly matatu operators after a security meeting.
The county security team, following a meeting co-chaired by the governor and the county commissioner, said businesses linked to criminal activities will lose their operating licences. Matatus associated with gangs risk being impounded and operators arrested.
The measures target organised criminal groups and political goonism that have grown over recent months. Public gatherings must follow regulated security arrangements and gangs posing as private security will not be tolerated.
Authorities plan to expand the CCTV network, form village security committees and rehabilitate street lighting in crime hotspots. These steps aim to improve surveillance and cooperation with residents.
