Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced that Federico Furiase will take over as finance secretary, replacing Alejandro Lew who resigned for personal reasons. Furiase, previously a director at the Central Bank, has extensive experience in finance and academia. The appointment comes at a critical time for the government's public debt strategy.

Alejandro Lew resigned from the Finance Secretariat for personal reasons after just over three months in the role, which he assumed in November 2024 following Pablo Quirno's departure to become chancellor. Prior to Finance, Lew had served as director and second vice president of the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina (BCRA).

Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced Federico Furiase's appointment via his X account. "I deeply appreciate the commitment and dedication of Alejandro Lew during his tenure as Finance Secretary. In recent days, we have been working on an orderly transition following his decision to resign for personal reasons," Caputo wrote. He added that Lew will continue collaborating with the economic team, contributing his expertise.

Furiase, a member of the economic team since the start of the administration, is leaving his position as BCRA director to join the Ministry of Economy. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and a master's in Finance from the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), where he teaches in the Master's in Finance program. He has over 15 years of experience in the financial market: starting in 2008 as an analyst at Estudio Bein, becoming a partner at EcoGo Consultores (led by Marina Dal Poggetto), and later joining Anker Latinoamérica with Caputo and Martín Vauthier.

At the BCRA, Furiase was a key technical voice in the monetary and exchange program. Now, he will coordinate the Treasury's financing policy and relations with the market during a decisive phase for consolidating the economic program. Caputo highlighted his "extensive and recognized trajectory in the economic and financial field".
