Madbouly meets Rosatom chief to review El Dabaa nuclear project progress

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev to review progress on the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and explore expanded bilateral cooperation. Madbouly reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to close coordination with Russia to ensure steady advancement and adherence to the agreed timeline. He praised Russian leadership support, highlighting the strategic partnership, and expressed interest in expanding cooperation on small modular reactor (SMR) technology and training Egyptian personnel.

Likhachev conveyed greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. He outlined the meeting's aim to assess the project's status, including preparations for operational testing, and detailed Rosatom's 2026 work plan with a commitment to on-schedule delivery. He thanked Egypt's Ministry of Electricity for procedural support.

Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat noted ongoing coordination with Russia on SMR technology. Both sides emphasized continued consultation to broaden bilateral ties.
