Marcus Johansson returns to Färjestad with two-year deal

Marcus Johansson has signed a two-year contract with Färjestad BK after spending 16 years in the NHL. The 35-year-old forward left Minnesota Wild to return to Sweden with his family.

Johansson cited the right timing for both himself and his family as the key reason for the move. “Det känns som rätt tid för mig och familjen att komma hem,” he told VF. He added that the decision felt right once made. The forward recorded 48 points in 75 games during his final NHL season and believes he remains at a high level. “Jag tycker fortfarande att jag utvecklas och kan spela på den nivå jag vill hålla,” Johansson said. He has followed Färjestad’s recent team building and was influenced by friend Magnus Nygren. His goal is clear. “Jag åker hem för att Färjestad ska vinna,” he stated, aiming to help the club secure the SM-guld after winning one with the team in 2009. Commentator Charles Berglund called the signing a top move that strengthens Färjestad. He noted Johansson will likely serve as the first-line center but added that the deal is not expected to be long-term given his age.
