Marvel announces two new Spider-Man comics for Brand New Day film

Marvel has released two new comic books to tie into the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. The announcements come ahead of the film's July 31 theatrical release. These stories feature Spider-Man alongside confirmed film characters like the Hulk and the Punisher.

Marvel Comics has launched two new series to build excitement for the Spider-Man: Brand New Day film, set for release on July 31. The first, Spider-Man: Long Way Home, is a five-issue miniseries written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Adam Kubert. In this story, Peter Parker teams up uneasily with the Hulk and the Punisher to retrieve the Cosmic Cube from AIM operatives in South America. The narrative unfolds in its own continuity, portraying the Hulk and Punisher early in their careers as near-mythical figures. The characters' lack of trust leads to complications for each during the mission.

The second series, Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is an ongoing title by writer Dan Slott, with artists Marcus To and Marcos Martin. Here, Spider-Man acquires a directory known as the Lexicon, containing details on the Kingpin's New York operations, which he hopes to use for good. This action draws threats from the Kingpin, Mr. Negative, and the Punisher.

The Hulk and Punisher are confirmed to appear in the film, as seen in leaked trailer footage from late last year. While Mr. Negative and the Kingpin are not yet officially confirmed for Brand New Day, the comics suggest potential synergies. Other characters like Scorpion, Tombstone, or Daredevil may appear in these books, though this remains unconfirmed. Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins on May 13, followed by Spider-Man: Long Way Home on June 17.
