New Line has added Matthias Schweighöfer to the cast of its horror prequel The Conjuring: First Communion. The German actor is set for an unspecified role in the film. Deadline reported the exclusive casting news on July 20.
Schweighöfer is known for roles in Oppenheimer and Netflix's Army of Thieves. He recently starred in the sci-fi thriller Brick and wrapped a part opposite Walton Goggins in the action-comedy Mister.
Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix lead the prequel as young versions of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Rodrigue Huart is directing from a script by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. Peter Safran produces with John Rickard, Natalia Safran and Romel Adam as executive producers.
The Conjuring Universe has grossed more than $2.7 billion worldwide. The new film is slated for release on September 10, 2027.
