Missouri father charged with abandoning infant in roadway

A 36-year-old man from Missouri faces charges after police say he left his infant child in a car seat on a busy St. Louis street and then led officers on a chase through the city.

Christopher Sean Pearson is accused of abandoning the baby on July 15 at the intersection of Goodfellow Boulevard and Natural Bridge Road. Witnesses reported seeing the driver of a blue Tesla place the car seat in a driving lane before leaving the scene.

Police say Pearson later told the child's mother he had left the infant outside a police station. Officers located the vehicle hours afterward and attempted to stop it, but Pearson fled, ignoring traffic signals and nearly causing collisions.

The pursuit ended when Pearson drove through two fences and stopped. Officers recovered three firearms from the Tesla, including one he allegedly threw from the car during the chase. Pearson appeared in court on July 17, where a judge ordered him held without bond.

He is charged with first-degree child endangerment and resisting arrest by fleeing.
