Three major fires broke out on July 1, 2026, in Bouches-du-Rhône, Aude and Var, mobilizing hundreds of firefighters.
In Bouches-du-Rhône, fires broke out in Rognac and Lançon-Provence late in the day. They burned 20 hectares in Rognac and 100 hectares in Lançon-Provence, fueled by strong gusts and high heat. Some 360 firefighters and 150 vehicles were mobilized.
In Aude, a fire that started near Oupia and Beaufort burned at least 800 hectares before being stabilized in the evening. 420 firefighters, four Canadair aircraft and other aerial resources were deployed, with evacuations in several communes.
In Var, at Fréjus, a fire burned 30 hectares in a peri-urban area. It was contained early in the evening after 2,200 people were evacuated from campsites. Road D37 was closed.
