Nick Aldis signed a contract on WWE SmackDown to face Gunther at SummerSlam, stepping down as general manager in the process. The move is temporary, with duties set to resume after the event.
On this week's SmackDown, Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis opened the show with a contract signing for Aldis' match against Gunther at SummerSlam. Pearce stated that signing the contract would mean Aldis relinquishes his role running the show, with Pearce taking control of both Raw and SmackDown.
Aldis signed the contract anyway. The segment ended with Aldis and Gunther brawling before the show went to commercial.
Wade Barrett clarified on commentary that Aldis is relinquishing his SmackDown general manager duties only until after SummerSlam. Aldis has held the position since October 2023.
Last week Triple H confirmed the Aldis versus Gunther match during the SummerSlam kickoff event.
