Norway opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 4-1 victory over Iraq in Foxborough. Erling Haaland scored twice in the first half to give his side control. A late own goal sealed the result after Iraq had briefly equalised.
Norway took the lead on 29 minutes when Antonio Nusa released David Moller Wolfe, whose cutback was converted by Haaland at the back post. Iraq responded through Ayman Hussein, who headed in an equaliser from a floated delivery by Amir Al-Ammari.
Haaland restored the lead before half-time after pressuring goalkeeper Jalal Hassan into an error. In the second half, substitute Leo Ostigard headed in Martin Odegaard's corner on 76 minutes to extend the advantage.
Deep into stoppage time, Haaland headed across goal and the ball was turned into his own net by Hussein. Norway will next face Senegal, while Iraq meet France.
