Oracle releases VirtualBox 7.2.4 with Linux kernel 6.18 support

Oracle has released VirtualBox 7.2.4, the second maintenance update for its open-source virtualization software. This version introduces initial support for the Linux 6.18 kernel on both hosts and guests. The update addresses several bugs and improves compatibility across various platforms.

On October 21, 2025, Oracle announced the release of VirtualBox 7.2.4, five weeks after the previous update, VirtualBox 7.2.2. This cross-platform virtualization solution, known for being free and open-source, now provides initial support for the upcoming Linux 6.18 kernel series. Users can virtualize Linux distributions running on kernel 6.18 or install VirtualBox on hosts powered by this kernel.

The update includes enhancements to Linux Guest Additions, offering fixes for kernels in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 and 9.7. It resolves an issue with multiple port forwarding rules that previously impacted NAT functionality and prevents crashes in the VirtualBox VM Manager when the host resumes from sleep.

For Windows users, the Windows Guest Additions have been updated to fix installation failures in Windows XP SP2 guests. Additionally, native language support has been improved for Traditional Chinese, Greek, Swedish, Hungarian, and Indonesian translations.

VirtualBox 7.2.4 is available as a universal binary compatible with any GNU/Linux distribution, as well as dedicated binaries for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora Linux, openSUSE, and Oracle Linux. For a full list of changes, users can refer to the changelog on the official website.

This release ensures better stability and broader kernel compatibility, benefiting developers and users relying on virtualization for testing and deployment across Linux environments.
