Örebro SK stays in Superettan after penalty drama

Örebro SK has secured its place in Superettan after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Hammarby TFF in the playoff. John Stenberg equalized in the 115th minute, leading to penalties where Erik Andersson decided the outcome. The victory preserves the club's 85-year streak in the top two leagues.

Örebro SK faced a tough challenge in the Superettan playoff against Hammarby TFF, Hammarby's youth team. In the first leg in Stockholm, Hammarby TFF won 1–0, giving them an advantage heading into the return match in Örebro.

The game turned into an intense drama. Kalle Holmberg opened the scoring for ÖSK, but another goal was disallowed after a corner due to crowding in the penalty area. In extra time, Adrian Lahdo gave Hammarby TFF the aggregate lead with a long-range shot. ÖSK seemed headed for relegation, but in the 115th minute, John Stenberg equalized and saved the team.

The penalty shootout decided in ÖSK's favor. The team converted all five penalties, while Hammarby TFF missed two. Erik Andersson scored the decisive penalty in the fifth round, ending 5–3. 'We were completely dead, we were gone but we're fucking back! We're so damn strong!', exclaimed Kalle Holmberg to SVT after the match.

The victory means Örebro SK remains in Superettan and maintains its 85-year tradition of playing in the country's top two leagues. Hammarby TFF, a clone club for young talents from Hammarby IF, stays in Division 1. In another playoff, Norrby beat Utsikten 4–3 and advances to Superettan as well.
