Orville Peck reveals 2023 suicide attempt and album inspiration

Orville Peck has discussed his 2023 suicide attempt and the personal challenges that shaped his upcoming fourth album. The country singer shared details in a new interview about his mental health struggles at the time.

The 38-year-old singer, whose real name is Daniel Pitout, said he intentionally overdosed two days before canceling his Bronco tour in June 2023. He described himself as a bad addict and coping alcoholic during that period.

Peck noted that the experience, along with a breakup and time in rehab, formed the basis for his album Mule. The 13-song collection is set for release on Sept. 18 through Warner Records and traces his path through addiction and recovery.

The lead single Too Little, Too Late was released on July 24. Peck performed at the Grand Ole Opry on July 21 and is scheduled to begin his Man Turned Mule 2026 North American tour on Oct. 28 in Sacramento, California.
