P3 ranks Peace & Love festival site as key place for Swedish music

Sweden's Radio P3 has named the Peace & Love festival site in Borlänge one of ten places that shaped Swedish music history since 2000. The festival drew artists like Jay-Z and Rihanna and sold up to 50,000 tickets per year at its peak.

P3 has compiled a list of places that changed Sweden's music history from 2000 onward. Among them is the Peace & Love field in Folkets Park, Borlänge, where the festival was held between 1999 and 2012.

"During some golden years around the turn of the decade 2010, Folkets Park in Borlänge was the place where the Swedish festival summer peaked. A place where the Swedish people flocked to see local prides like Miss Li and Mando Diao as well as superstars like Jay Z and Rihanna," P3 writes.

The festival peaked with around 50,000 tickets sold annually before economic issues led to bankruptcy. It was revived on a smaller scale but ended again with bankruptcy in 2020.

Artists like Motörhead, Håkan Hellström, and Sex Pistols also performed there, now honored for its role in Swedish music.
