Paul McCartney has spoken about the thrill of playing bass on a track for the Rolling Stones' upcoming album. The Beatles legend described the session for the song 'Covered In You' as a highlight. It marks his second contribution to a Stones record in recent years.
In an interview published on May 30, McCartney recalled arriving at the studio with his bass and feeling immediate excitement upon seeing Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. “Wow, there’s Mick! Ooh, there’s Keith! Woah, there’s Ronnie!” he said. He focused on laying down his part without mistakes while watching the band develop the arrangement during multiple takes. McCartney noted that he normally does not work as a session musician and was glad he avoided any blasé attitude toward the opportunity. “I was glad I wasn’t blasé about it. It’s really exciting,” he added. The appearance follows his earlier contribution to the Stones' 2023 album 'Hackney Diamonds'. McCartney’s comments came as he promoted his own new solo release, 'The Boys Of Dungeon Lane'.
