Peter Gabriel announces 2026 album o/i and single Been Undone

Peter Gabriel has revealed details of his upcoming album o/i, set for release in 2026, with the debut single Been Undone out now. Tracks will drop monthly on full moon nights, echoing the rollout of his previous record i/o. The album explores themes of future transitions and human connection.

Peter Gabriel's new album, titled o/i, is slated for 2026, following the innovative release strategy of his 2023 project i/o. The first single, Been Undone, launched on January 3, 2026, and each subsequent track will appear on full moon evenings throughout the year, culminating on December 23.

In a press statement, Gabriel described the songs as "a mix of thoughts and feelings." He elaborated on inspirations: "I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it. We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves; AI, quantum computing and the brain computer interface. Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror. These are my lumpy bits –i/o: the inside has a new way out and o/i: the outside has a new way in."

Gabriel further reflected on interconnectedness: "We are not, and have never been, the exclusively self-determining, independent beings that have been given the run of the world. We are something else, a part of nature, a part of everything, and feeling a connection, shaking our booty, and giving and receiving some love can help us find our place – and put a big smile on our faces. Some of these songs are going to form part of the brain project that I’ve been exploring for a number of years, and some just make me feel happy. I hope you like them."

Complementing the music, each track will feature visual artworks; Been Undone is paired with Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome) by São Paulo-based artist Janaina Mello Landini. Remixes by producers Mark ‘Spike’ Stent for the ‘Bright-Side Mix’ and Tchad Blake for the ‘Dark-Side Mix’ will accompany every song, maintaining the dual-format approach from i/o.

With the first track "Been Undone" released alongside January's Wolf Moon, Peter Gabriel's *o/i* album rollout—announced earlier this month—mirrors his 2023 *i/o* strategy. This phased approach underscores his history of delayed albums and sparks ideas for broader promotion amid comparisons to consistently active peers.
