Pixies members have endorsed Dave Grohl's description of their 1988 debut album Surfer Rosa as the perfect record. The comments came during an interview at Madrid's Mad Cool festival.
Guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering spoke to NME backstage ahead of the band's main stage set. Santiago said he had to agree with Grohl's assessment. Lovering added that the album is his favourite one.
Grohl had made the remarks earlier in July on BBC Radio 6 Music. He highlighted the album's production by Steve Albini and the blend of vocals from Black Francis and Kim Deal.
The Pixies members noted they do not know Grohl personally. Their contact has been limited to occasional airport meetings and shared festival bills.
Santiago also named the Foo Fighters' 1997 album The Colour and the Shape as the perfect record from Grohl's band. On new music, he said the group is always working and plans to piece together more songs during an October break.
