Police arrest six kidnappers and rescue three in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims in a joint operation with local vigilantes in Lafia Local Government Area. The victims, comprising two females and one male, were unharmed and reunited with their families. The operation followed a complaint about abductions in Angara village on January 7, 2026.

On January 9, 2026, the Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force announced the arrest of six suspected kidnappers and the rescue of three victims in the Lafia East Development Area of Lafia Local Government Area. The operation, conducted in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeted hideouts in Angara and Fadaman Bauna villages.

The incident began on January 7, 2026, when suspected kidnappers invaded Angara village, abducting two females and leaving an infant behind. They later kidnapped a male victim in the same village. Following a complaint, Commissioner of Police CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed ordered a manhunt, leading to the successful raid.

In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel, the command detailed that the victims were rescued unhurt, received prompt treatment, and were reunited with their families. The suspects confessed to the crime and have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.

"This operation followed a complaint lodged on 07/01/2026, reporting that suspected kidnappers invaded Angara village and abducted two females, leaving behind an infant, and later kidnapped another male in the same village," the statement read. "Acting on this information, the Commissioner of Police... immediately ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators, which culminated in the successful arrest of the suspects and the rescue of the victims."

The police emphasized the operation's role as a deterrent to criminals. CP Mohammed reaffirmed the command's commitment to tackling all forms of criminality across Nasarawa's 13 local government areas, providing reassurance to residents amid ongoing security challenges in the region.
