Police rescue ex-minister Adelabu's sister and twin sons

The Nigeria Police Force rescued the sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and her 12-year-old twin sons in Oyo State on Saturday evening after a gunfight that killed two suspected kidnappers.

The victims, identified as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her sons Peter and Paul, were abducted at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, while traveling to the children's school. Police carried out the rescue operation around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday using sustained intelligence tracking that led to a confrontation with the kidnappers. Operatives neutralised two suspected kidnappers during the gunfight and recovered firearms. Security forces are continuing to search nearby areas for other members of the group who fled, some with reported gunshot wounds. The Nigeria Police Force stated that the operation succeeded due to tactical pressure on the kidnappers. The rescue contrasts with other ongoing abduction cases in the state, including more than 30 schoolchildren and teachers held since mid-May.
