Prabowo calls TNI leaders to Merdeka Palace to discuss geostrategy

President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting with TNI leaders and the Ministry of Defense at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday, January 16, 2026. The meeting addressed directives on defense and security strategies, as well as Indonesia's future geostrategy plans. It took place on the national holiday commemorating Isra Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

President Prabowo Subianto, as the Supreme Commander of the TNI, summoned several top Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) leaders along with Ministry of Defense officials for a limited meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on January 16, 2026. This gathering forms part of the Head of State's routine agenda in fulfilling his role as the military's highest leader.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who attended the meeting, explained that the President delivered directives on defense and security strategies, along with upcoming geostrategy plans. "President Prabowo Subianto received a routine meeting with several main TNI officials, including the TNI Commander and Deputy Commander, Army Chief of Staff, Navy Chief of Staff, and Air Force Chief of Staff," Teddy stated when contacted in Jakarta the following Saturday.

"(The President) conveyed several directions as Supreme Commander to the top TNI leadership regarding defense and security strategies, as well as future geostrategy plans," he added. However, specific details of the geostrategy plans were not disclosed.

In an official photo released by the Presidential Secretariat, the meeting occurred at a round table with President Prabowo seated in the center. To his right sat Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, while to his left were State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Across from the President were Deputy TNI Commander General TNI Tandyo Budi Revita, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal TNI M. Tonny Harjono, and Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General TNI Richard Taruli Horja Tampubolon. In the back row stood high-ranking TNI officers from all three branches, including planning and budget assistants.

The Presidential Secretariat noted that such meetings are held periodically to ensure strong coordination in national defense matters.
