Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said changes in coffee development clearly show the Green Legacy program's contribution. Ethiopia has become the world's third-largest coffee exporter.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while responding to questions at the House of People's Representatives during its 30th regular session of the fifth working year. He noted that attention to coffee development enabled Ethiopia to reach third place among global coffee exporters.
This year's commodity exports exceeded 11 billion dollars, with coffee alone contributing 3.1 billion dollars, he said. Over the previous 17 years, total earnings from coffee exports reached only 3.3 billion dollars.
Government focus on coffee cultivation has strengthened the Green Legacy program, the Prime Minister explained. He added that success came from planting, caring for, harvesting, processing, and shipping the crop.
