Demonstrators erected tents and scattered debris outside Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman’s residence this week to protest the city’s homelessness crisis. The action targeted Raman, who chairs the council’s Housing and Homelessness Committee and is running for mayor. Raman described the scene as beyond what she expected in the campaign.
Masked organizers from the group Safe Cities USA built the temporary display near Raman’s $2 million home. They said the setup was meant to show residents what many Angelenos face daily. One participant told FOX 11 the effort was a “parody ad” for the candidate and requested anonymity over fears of retaliation. Raman told comedian Adam Conover she was shocked by the protest and relieved her children did not see it.
