PWHL unveils Vancouver Goldeneyes and Seattle Torrent as new team names

The Professional Women's Hockey League announced the names and branding for its two newest expansion teams on Thursday: the Vancouver Goldeneyes and Seattle Torrent. The teams will make their debut on November 21, 2025, with the Goldeneyes hosting the Torrent at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. This marks the league's growth to eight teams ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The PWHL's expansion to Vancouver and Seattle, announced earlier this year, reached a key milestone with the reveal of official team identities. The Vancouver Goldeneyes draw their name from the common goldeneye, a fiercely protective aquatic bird native to the region's coast. The team's primary colors are Pacific blue, coastal cream, and earthy bronze, with the logo featuring a golden eye surrounded by wings pointing northwest, incorporating hints of sunset gold and sky blue. "This identity is a perfect reflection of who we are, where we come from, and that we will be relentless to play against every single night," said Goldeneyes forward Jenn Gardiner, a native of nearby Surrey, B.C.

The Seattle Torrent's branding is inspired by the waterways of Washington state and the frequent rain in the Pacific Northwest, symbolizing strength and motion. Primary colors include slate green, shadow, and glacier blue, with a logo featuring a stylized "S" resembling rushing water and the word "Torrent" in the center. "Whenever you’re looking at the culture of a group, you want it to be a really strong room — and to pair that with an incredible city with a storied sports legacy and a brand new identity that speaks to all of that, it’s a great recipe for us," Torrent forward Hilary Knight said.

PWHL vice president of brand and marketing Kanan Bhatt-Shah explained that the designs capture local nature's authenticity while aligning with the league's themes of strength, empowerment, and resilience. Both teams consulted community members and fans during the process. For the inaugural 2025-26 season, Vancouver and Seattle will wear jerseys with city names across the chest, similar to the original six teams in their first year, as there was insufficient time to produce logoed versions. The league's schedule includes 30 games per team, with a break for the Olympics. Opening night features a doubleheader: Toronto Sceptres at Minnesota Frost, followed by Goldeneyes vs. Torrent. Players report to training camps on Friday.
