Rising global oil prices, fueled by escalating Middle East tensions, are prompting consumers to seek fuel-efficient vehicles. Renault Korea’s flagship hybrid SUV, the Grand Koleos, is emerging as a practical family option in this context. Built on Renault’s E-Tech hybrid system, it offers a certified fuel efficiency of 15.8 kilometers per liter, with up to 75 percent of city driving possible in electric mode for enhanced real-world performance, according to the carmaker. The powertrain features a dual-motor setup—a 100-kilowatt traction motor, a 60-kilowatt high-voltage starter generator, and a class-leading 1.64-kilowatt-hour battery—delivering a combined 245 horsepower. Its multi-mode automatic transmission pairs a three-speed gearbox with the dual motors for smooth shifts and reduced noise, vibration, and harshness. The SUV includes up to 31 advanced driver assistance systems, with Active Driver Assist enabling Level 2 autonomy through adaptive cruise control, lane-centering, and automated lane changes. Constructed on the Compact Modular Architecture platform, it uses an industry-leading 18 percent hot-press-formed components, giga steel, and advanced high-strength steel for superior crash safety. It earned a top rating in the 2024 Korea New Car Assessment Program. Over the past two years, the model has gained steady popularity thanks to its efficiency and safety. An official from Renault Korea stated, “Strong fuel efficiency and reliable in-vehicle safety make the Grand Koleos flagship SUV one of the most reasonable options as a family vehicle amid high oil prices.”
