Microsoft and ASUS have rolled out new updates for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld, introducing Default Game Profiles in preview to optimize frame rates and battery life for supported games. These profiles automatically adjust settings for smoother gameplay without manual tweaks. Additional improvements enhance performance and usability across the device.
Default Game Profiles
Starting November 25, 2025, Default Game Profiles are available in preview for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. This feature automatically balances frame rate (FPS) and power consumption for 40 supported games at launch, including Fortnite, Gears of War: Reloaded, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, DOOM Eternal, Forza Horizon 5, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Minecraft, with more titles coming soon.
The profiles are hand-crafted per game and apply only when on battery power. Upon launching a supported game, the system sets a recommended power limit (TDP) and FPS cap tailored to that title. If the game underperforms, power boosts to reach the target FPS, prioritizing smooth play over battery life. If it exceeds the target, FPS is limited to conserve energy. For instance, in Hollow Knight: Silksong, it adds nearly an hour of battery life compared to Performance mode while maintaining 120 FPS.
Users can toggle these profiles on or off via the Armoury Crate Command Center Game Bar widget.
Additional Improvements
Recent updates address player feedback with enhancements like faster gamepad response after login, quicker library loading for large collections, improved Cloud Gaming page performance, and a new Game Gallery filter by Performance Fit to assess game compatibility. Bug fixes boost stability and responsiveness.
Upcoming Features
Next week, a Game Save Sync Indicator will launch, providing clear cloud sync status for seamless play across devices. The Full Screen Experience, optimized for handhelds, now expands to other Windows 11 devices in preview for Insiders. Looking ahead, investments include better sleep/wake reliability and microSD formatting. Early next year, the ROG Xbox Ally X will add AI features like Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) and highlight reels.
Purchasers in select markets get three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium, offering cloud gaming and over 200 titles. To access updates, install the latest Armoury Crate SE, Xbox PC app, and Windows 11 versions.
