Scott Brash tops opening class at CHI Al Shaqab 2026

British rider Scott Brash won the featured CSI5* 1.50m Faults & Time class on the opening day of the 13th CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines Doha 2026. The event, held at Al Shaqab in Doha, features riders from 40 nations competing across showjumping, dressage, and para-dressage. A total prize purse exceeds €1.3 million over four days.

The 13th edition of CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines Doha 2026, the sixth leg of the Doha Equestrian Tour 2026, began on Wednesday evening, February 19, at Al Shaqab. It includes 303 riders and 469 horses from 40 nations vying for prizes exceeding €1.3 million in showjumping, dressage, and para-dressage disciplines.

In the opening day's highlight, the CSI5* 1.50m Faults & Time class, Scott Brash of Britain rode Hello Jefferson to the fastest clear round in 64.10 seconds, securing first place. Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann of Germany placed second on Iron Dames High Level with 67.19 seconds. Third place was shared by Brazil's Marlon Modolo Zanotelli on Charly Heart and France's Megane Moissonnier on Qoup de Coeur de Muze, both at 67.76 seconds.

Other results included France's Lara Tryba winning the CSI5* 1.40m Two Phases class on Flash de Talma in 48.80 and 27.94 seconds, ahead of Qatar's Salman Mohammed Al Emadi on Wathnan Toblerone (51.83 and 28.32 seconds) and Turkiye's Hasan Senturk on Quinti Von Hof (50.60 and 28.52 seconds). Senturk later took the CSI3* 1.40m Two Phases on Diams Brimbelles Z (50.28 and 27.37 seconds), with Qatar's Sultan Salem Al Naemi second on Energika des Neyes (50.62 and 27.97 seconds) and Austria's Max Kuhner third on Eic Up Too Jacco Blue (48.04 and 28.16 seconds).

Jordan's Ibrahim Hani Bisharat won the CSI* Special Two-Phase 1.35m on Corona Irw (34.89 and 33.35 seconds), followed by France's Jean Francois Rondoux on Inter-Larus (37.83 and 35.43 seconds) and Bahrain's Hussain Mohamed Dadalla on Elite (36.78 and 35.63 seconds). In the CSI1* 1.20m Faults & Time, Saudi Arabia's Abdulrahman Almutawaa prevailed on Inouie du Nenuphar in 58.08 seconds, with compatriot Abdullah Ibrahim Abdullah second on F’Un Chassagne (58.54 seconds) and Egypt's Fatima Mohanad Alkishawi third on Quintalou (58.96 seconds).

Deputy Tournament Director Mohammed Jaber Al Khayarin stated, “We are proud to launch a new edition of the Al Shaqab International Championship amidst this large international presence of riders and horses. This reflects the growing confidence in Qatari organisation and Al Shaqab’s ability to deliver a championship of the highest international standards. This year, we have ensured the highest levels of technical and logistical readiness to guarantee an outstanding competitive experience for all participants.”

The competition continued on Thursday with 12 classes, including a para-dressage Grand Prix. Friday features multiple finals, such as the CSI5* CHI Al Shaqab Grand Prix presented by Longines 1.60m.

Britain’s Tom McEwen secured third place in the five-star dressage at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event with a score of 25.1. Elizabeth Barratt claimed third in the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S class scoring 29.7. Both riders praised their horses after tests on 24 April.

British riders dominated the opening days of the Royal Windsor Horse Show, claiming victory in every CSI5* class over the first two days. Matt Sampson, Jack Whitaker and Ben Maher each delivered standout performances with new and established mounts. The results provide a strong marker ahead of the world championships in Aachen.
