SCZone signs $20m contract with Zhejiang Hongda for textile project

The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone signed a contract with Chinese firm Zhejiang Hongda to build a $20m textile manufacturing project in Qantara West Industrial Zone.

The contract was signed on Monday at the authority’s headquarters in the Administrative Capital. SCZone Vice Chairman for Investment and Promotion Mostafa Shekhoun signed for the authority while Maliang Lin and Abdel Malek Al-Dhabi signed for the company in the presence of SCZone Chairperson Walid Gamal El-Din.

The project covers 60,000 square metres and is projected to create about 500 direct jobs. The facility is expected to export 70 percent of its production.

Gamal El-Din said the Qantara West zone is seeing rapid growth in foreign investment in textiles and ready-made garments. The zone now hosts 53 active projects with total investments of $1.48bn.

Walid Gamal El-Din, chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), witnessed the signing of a landmark agreement with Alpha Smart to establish a fully integrated complex of ready-made factories in the Sokhna Industrial Zone. The project covers 500,000 square meters with $100 million in direct investments and is expected to create 5,000 direct jobs.

Chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), Walid Gamal El-Din, announced record $7.1bn in investments for the current fiscal year, including $1.8bn in the last two months. He spoke at a conference in New Cairo on the zone's role as a global logistics and industrial hub. The zone reported strong growth in revenues and cargo volumes.

Egypt has signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and build a factory producing seawater desalination membranes using reverse osmosis technology. The deal involves the New Urban Communities Authority, CITIC Construction, and ANCOM. The initiative supports water security and reduces import dependency.
